Progress in global health is seeing scientific innovation mark a new dawn. Clinical trials for an HIV vaccine are taking place in the US and South Africa, offering a lifeline for millions suffering from HIV/AIDS. A daily use of statins has also been shown to significantly decrease heart disease risk in HIV positive adults. Meanwhile, a universal flu vaccine is being developed, with the potential to target six strains and significantly decrease hospitalizations from flu. Additionally, research methods are evolving, with low-grade glioma patients being involved in the OPTIMUM study to improve their care. Progress is also being made in precision medicine, such as the National Cancer Institute's ComboMATCH initiative. Breakthroughs are occurring in prostate cancer research, stroke treatment, and oncology, like a new T-cell therapy successful in shrinking solid tumors. There are promising developments in prohibiting the metastasis of breast cancer to the brain, based on phase I clinical trials. These medical advancements offer hope to those suffering from life-threatening diseases.
